Vegeta. His fights are always awesome

For me its a toss up between Goku and Piccolo. Goku has the highest number of good to great fights while Piccolo (to me) has the highest percentage of those same things. Voted Piccolo though (as I can see Goku running away with this).

Goku vs Piccolo is one of my favorite fights, actually it probably is my favorite. I voted for Goku however.

Goku got most of the best fights. Not only in Dragon Ball, where his fight vs Tienshinhan is amazing considering the way he innately understands certain attacks weaknesses and strengths, but also his fight vs Jackie Chun is wonderful and a great morality lesson about realizing their is always someone stronger. Then there is his fight with Piccolo Daimao and the iconic punch through his chest, and then his fight with Piccolo Jr. is one of the most dramatic and interesting fights in the series and is literally my favorite. It combines it all, high stakes, tournament atmosphere, Goku's resiliency and his ability to fight the odds not to mention his inventiveness such as using Piccolo's size increase to jump in his throat and fight him from there, and the foot Kamehameha. Plus it shows Goku's determination to never give up even when he can't move a limb he still attacks Piccolo. Really great stuff.

Then we get to Z...His fight vs. Vegeta is great because it's the first time we see the Kaio-Ken attack which I simply love because it literally is the epitome of Goku surpassing his limits in a time of great need. He destroys his body for a chance to defeat his opponent.

Then his fight with Frieza is great because the power gets so high there and you really feel Goku is the only one who can do anything about it. Though it's not my favorite in the series it gets a high grade because it's such a titanic clash of two extreme battle powers. Though I wouldn't even list this fight in my reasons for why I voted Goku, though I just did. Hmmm, whatever.

His fight vs Cell is actually my second favorite in the series. It's extremely technical and brings the series back to those Dragon Ball roots and combines a high level of ingenuity from Goku while showing his tenacity and love for fighting. It's just a pure good ol fight, and while it feels more like a spar I love the atmosphere behind the fight. You can tell Cell has been waiting forever for this moment...especially when you consider the scene where Goku and Cell might and Goku teleported away before Cell could fight him. I almost got the sense that Cell has respect for Goku which is something we don't really see in the series from a real villain.

Not to mention the Instant Transmission Kamehameha is so awesome...what an ingenious move from Goku. He shows his knack for battle tactics and competency in this fight extremely well. It's a great fight.

And that's about it but I feel those are enough reasons to vote him above anyone else; Piccolo gets a great fight against Goku, though that point also goes towards Goku and a great fight against Android #17 and that's about it. His fight vs. Frieza is all too short and his fight against Cell is as well.

Vegeta gets some great fights but only a handful I can really consider top tier like most of Goku's fights are. His fight vs. Imperfect Cell is so good just because we get to see how much power Vegeta is putting out, it's a great way to put his increase in power into context because we know that Cell>#16>#17>#18 and she whooped Vegeta so badly before hand that we really get a sense of how strong Vegeta has become because of it. Great way. His fight vs Fat Buu is lackluster, his fight vs. the Ginyu force is great but that's just about it. His fight vs. Frieza isn't really even a fight and his fight vs. Goku can count for Goku as well. I just couldn't bring myself to vote him over Goku.

Oh and his fight vs. #19 and #18 are good...Actually his fight vs #19 could be considered a top tier fight because of his sheer brilliancy in it; the bluff against #20, and letting #19 drain his energy just to test if they could and then still whooping him. Yea that's really a great fight...

Still not nearly as many as Goku and not on the same technicality as him. I feel like everyone in this thread is forgetting how great Goku's fights in Dragon Ball were...

I don't quite think so with Goku. In fact, now that I actually think about it, Goku's all three of my top favourite fights (Goku vs Tien (22nd), Goku vs Piccolo (23rd) and Goku vs Krillin (22nd) probably in that order). What I think for a lot of people, is that with Goku, you always get the impression that he's going to win a fight and, that notion in itself, sort of lessens the memory.

I think it comes down to being able to differentiate "best fights" and "favourite fights."
